South Lake Union and Uptown Subarea Plans

Strategic plans for two of six Regional Growth Centers identified in the City of Seattle’s Comprehensive Plan, guiding how each district will grow and invest over the next 20 years.

The South Lake Union and Uptown Subarea Plans will develop place-specific policies to ensure that these strategic districts can successfully accommodate future growth and become more equitable, vibrant and resilient. While grounded in the city wide policy of the Comprehensive Plan, the Subarea Plans will recommend geographically focused investment and implementation tools guided by each community’s interests and visions for its own future to respond to community-identified needs, including but not limited to economic development, capital facilities, services and public realm.

Ideas and Action is leading technical analysis and recommendations for housing, workforce and economic development. The scope includes the identification and analysis of data on housing, employment, industry and economic conditions; evaluation of existing policies, resources and capacities; and identification and engagement with key housing, industry, employer, workforce development, institutional and community service-provider stakeholders. Ideas and Action will assess challenges and identify opportunities in housing and economic development, and work collaboratively with City policy-makers and key stakeholders to develop strategic goals and action items.
